We are very proud to announce our first keynote speaker: Prof. Désiré Collen. Prof. Collen is currently CEO and Chairman of ThromboGenicsand Director of the Molecular Cardiovascular Medicine Group (comprising the Center for Molecular and Vascular Biology of the K.U. Leuven, and the Center for Transgene Technology and Gene Therapy of the Flanders Interuniversity Institute for Biotechnology) in Leuven, Belgium.

He has research interests in the molecular biology and pathophysiology of haemostasis and thrombosis, the development of novel thrombolytic and antithrombotic agents, the pathogenesis and treatment of atherosclerosis, and gene targeting and gene transfer studies of the cardiovascular system. His team initially developed t-PA, currently the most effective drug for thrombolytic therapy of acute myocardial infarction.

Prof. Collen has co-authored more than 620 research papers and has received four honorary doctorates (Erasmus University, Rotterdam, The Netherlands; Free University Brussels, Belgium; University of Notre Dame, IN, USA; Mediterranean University, Marseille, France) and several scientific awards including the Francqui Prize (Belgium) in 1984, the Prix Louis Jeantet de Médecine (Switzerland) in 1986, and the Bristol-Myers-Squibb award for Cardiovascular Research (USA) in 1995. Prof. Collen is Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of ThromboGenics Ltd, a biopharmaceutical drug development company in Ireland, and Chairman of the Board of its research unit Thromb-X, NV in Belgium.

Besides the investors also the conference participants had the opportunity to vote for the best start-up company. Glycocheck was selected as the winner of the Public Award Investors forum. According to the participants the entrepreneurial skills of the Glycocheck team together with the companies business model make Glycocheck the most promising company.

Glycocheck’s team, Jonathon de Jonge and Pieter Goedhart received a meet & greet diner cheque from Iventus.  The cheque can be used for a networking diner with a CEO of the winners choice and which will organised by Iventus.
