Dr. R. (Rudi) Pauwels, CEO and co-founder of Biocartis, will give a plenary lecture about the developments in the markets for diagnostic products.

He is a scientist-entrepreneur who has founded and built several successful biotechnology companies. In 1994, he co-founded Tibotec with his wife pharmacist Carine Claeys. During his time as CEO and CSO, Tibotec became one of the most productive companies in the field of anti-HIV drug discovery. These efforts resulted in the successful development of several next generation anti-HIV drugs with improved drug-resistance profiles. In 1995, together with Dr. Paul Stoffels, Rudi co-founded Virco a company focusing on the improvement of the management of HIV/AIDS patients using new molecular diagnostic tools for personalized HIV drug resistance monitoring. Tibotec and Virco were acquired by Johnson & Johnson in 2002.
