Dedicated workshops

The programme will feature three interactive workshops on topics that are related to the central theme ‘Business Development in Life Sciences’.

Biopharmaceuticals
The typical biotech business model is changing, too, and biotech and pharma companies are assimilating. Biotech companies are finding it increasingly difficult to secure finance. The sector has to reinvent itself and the typical business models are changing. In this session four companies will address their business and financing models. From the classical venture capital financing of ProFibrix to the hybrid business model of Bioceros, these companies have been successful in financing their own product development activities.

Medical devices
hosted by Medical Delta
The medical devices industry continues to grow, thanks to an aging population, high unmet medical needs and increased incidence of lifestyle diseases (including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hypertension and obesity). These drivers for growth and several issues facing the industry such as pricing concerns, impact of healthcare reform and increasing regulatory involvement will be addressed. How do medical device companies bring innovations to the market? Smaller companies like Milabs as well as multinationals in the medical device market such as Nucletron have all have encountered hurdles in bringing their products onto the market.

Diagnostics
hosted by Immuno Valley
The workshop addresses the critical steps that are required to develop new diagnostic products in relation to trends and developments such as companion diagnostics, lab-on-a-chip and bench to bedside.
Furthermore FDA approval, government influence, financing and reimbursement, and market pull versus technology push are topics that will be discussed in this session. Companies are being challenged to develop new business models and ways to collaborate with partners. These aspects will be discussed by different companies in this session.
